Business and Insurance Registry

In accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:10A-1 et seq. and Chapter 89 of the Borough Code, all business owners, rental property owners, and certain multifamily homeowners in Saddle River are required to maintain liability insurance and register annually with the Borough.

Who Must Register:

• Business owners

• Owners of rental units

• Owners of multifamily homes with 4 or fewer units, one of which is owner-occupied

Insurance Requirements:

• $500,000 minimum coverage for business and rental unit owners

• $300,000 minimum coverage for owner-occupied multifamily homes (up to 4 units)

Registration Process:

• Complete and submit the Business Insurance Registration Form (see link below)

• Include a copy of your insurance certificate

• Pay the $50 administrative fee

• Submit all materials to the Municipal Clerk

• Registration is due annually by January 31, or within 30 days of opening a business or acquiring a rental property

Certificate of Registration:

Upon approval, a certificate will be issued by the Municipal Clerk, valid for the calendar year.

Penalties for Non-Compliance:

• $500 for first offense

• $1,000 for second offense

• $2,000 for third or subsequent offenses
  Each year of non-compliance counts as a separate offense.
